REC History and Milestones

Our story mirrors the story of Saudi Arabia and the region. Riyadh Exhibitions Company (REC) grew from humble beginnings in 1980, organizing two to three exhibitions in the early years and growing consistently and sustainably to our current role as a leader in the MICE sector where we organize as many as 12 international trade shows and exhibitions that serve Saudi Arabia’s most vital sectors.

In 1980, REC started organizing exhibitions in an area of approximately 8,000 sqm.
In1984, we expanded into a new exhibition centre with an area of over 15,000 sqm, where REC organized shows that were soon accredited by UFI, the world’s leading tradeshow association.
By 2008, we needed even more space and moved into a 25,000 sqm exhibition space.
Today, we make tangible contributions to the Saudi economy by organizing major events across vital sectors of the economy such as Construction, Agriculture and Food, Energy, Education, Healthcare, ICT, and Plastics.

Within Saudi Arabia, we help build the economy by partnering with the public sector to organize key events. The Ministry of Higher Education called on REC to organize the International Exhibition for Higher Education. The Ministry of Commerce and Investment engaged us for the e-Commerce Conference & Exhibition. We met the goals of The Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage in showcasing the Saudi Travel & Tourism Investment Market. A small sample of some of our other successful public sector partnerships have included:

  • Armed Forces Exhibition for Materials & Equipment Spare Parts (Ministry of Defense)
  • e-Transactions Conference & Exhibition (Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, Ministry of Finance, Communications & Information Technology Commission, e-Government Program)
  • National Industries Exhibition (Riyadh Chamber of Commerce & Industry)
  • Saudi Oil & Gas Show (Ministry of Petroleum & Mineral Resources)

REC’s story is also global. We are the choice of international partners in Saudi Arabia for exhibitions that promote products, services, and trade with foreign countries such as Qatar, Oman, and Turkey. We arrange B2B conferences between Saudi businesses and foreign trade organizations such as Brazil Trade. We even go beyond Saudi borders; REC managed the Saudi Pavilion and participation on behalf of the Saudi Ministry of Commerce and Investment at ACCENTA 2011 in Belgium.

As Saudi Arabia’s economy continues to grow and diversify, REC is here to work on behalf of its clients to deliver world-class events that align with that vision, because Saudi Arabia’s story is our story.
