Kingdom’s massive
population growth behind boom in construction
and expansion
|
The Kingdom’s construction sector continues to be fuelled by the increasing population growth – it has grown 8 fold over the last two decades and is expected to continue to rise from 4.1 million inhabitants to over 6 million in less than 5 years. Multi billion dollar public and private projects are underway in order to provide the necessary infrastructure, housing and facilities needed to support this massive growth.
Among the major projects underway are: electricity (123 billion US$), roads (5 billion US$), water (93 billion US$), schools and universities (2 billion US$), hospitals (5 billion US$), housing (6 billion US$), not to mention the numerous public and commercial developments and tourism and industrial expansion. |

Saudi Arabia prepares to
meet the growing demand
for new homes
|
The Kingdom is gearing up to meet the residential, health, educational and recreational needs of its rapidly growing population. Over 2 million new housing units will be needed, with over 600,000 for Riyadh alone. Major projects are in the works for new hospitals, schools, universities and recreation parks, all creating unprecedented demand for the latest construction products, machinery and building equipment. |
| |
Major projects ongoing for
infrastructure works
|
With much of Saudi Arabia’s infrastructure undergoing a complete expansion, opportunities are widespread. New roads projects totaling well over 5.4 billion US$ will require materials and heavy machinery. Electricity expansion projects mean that over 117 billion US$ will be spent over the coming two decades to expand electrical capacity by 300%. More than 600 new factories will be built on new industrial parks that are being created. Telecommunications facilities are being expanded to support increased traffic. Such a massive undertaking will require the best the world has to offer in terms of building products and high-tech equipment. |
| |
Water and sewage networks
in full expansion
|
Complete overhaul and expansion of water networks are ongoing, which include
desalination plants, drinking water networks and pipelines. Over 300 projects are ongoing worth around 93 billion US$, creating a
huge demand for specialized equipment
and materials. |
| |
Multi-billion dollar development of public and private sector
|
Public and commercial development projects are underway on a scale not seen anywhere else in the region. Ministry buildings, touristic developments and recreational facilities need sophisticated products and finishing materials, as well as a wide range of security devices. Buyers will be looking for creative designs, quality materials and innovative technologies from around the world. Stone technology and stone products are also in great demand. Stone, travertine and stone derivatives as well as the latest machinery for cutting, grinding and polishing are needed. Unrivaled opportunities exist for suppliers catering to this market. |
